In a cloud shared responsibility model, organizations are still responsible for security in the cloud -- including their data -- while cloud providers are only responsible for the security of the cloud, meaning the compute, storage and networks that support the public cloud. Especially for government, it seems that security in the cloud is still a major concern.  According to a 2019 Ponemon Institute survey, 55% of agencies reported they have strongly embraced the cloud and the majority of agencies reported that they utilize SaaS for at least 30% of mission-critical resources. However, the majority (67%) report that they are still struggling with security for their cloud environment. So the question remains: what needs to happen to ensure security keeps pace with innovation as organizations modernize?
