Formula E Racing Resumes August 5 in Berlin

Lionel Menchaca

Lots of us here at Forcepoint are excited for Round 6 of the Formula E 2019/2020 Championship series to resume today, August 5. Expect an intense finale to the season, where six races in nine days will determine the winner, all taking place in Berlin.

12 teams will face off to determine one winner for the 2019/2020 sixth racing season.

The six races will happen at three different track layouts at the Tempelhof Airport. Rounds six and seven of the Tempelhof Circuit will be run, clockwise, in reverse. Rounds eight and nine will happen at the traditional Berlin Tempelhof Circuit, while the race season culminates in round 10 and 11 taking place on the more technical Berlin layout to challenge the racing teams like never before.

Here's detail on the three tracks:

At Forcepoint, we’ll be rooting for team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler which features Lucas di Grassi and Rene Rast. We announced a partnership with Formula E founding driver and Roborace chairman Lucas di Grassi back in February and have been cheering him on ever since. Like I’ve mentioned before, Lucas is a man who understands disruptive technology and how it can propel whole industries forward.

Data plays a key role leading up to race day, and throughout the race as well. Lucas works with a team of up to 20 data, performance and software engineers. That team is responsible for real-time data collection and analysis. And with Formula E, it's not just about speed: maximizing energy efficiency can mean the difference between winning and finishing second place.

The proprietary data analysis that happens leading up to race day and beyond provides teams a competitive edge. Since that analysis represents the team's intellectual property, protecting that data is also critically important.

Here’s a video where Lucas and his race engineer Markus Michelberger providing an inside look at the process:

For those interested in watching the race live, here’s where to do it. After the conclusion of the race series, I’ll publish another post discussing the results once they are in.
