Enable Safe Access to AI Tools with Forcepoint ONE

Kevin Oliveira

Many organizations today are still apprehensive about letting their users access generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. Bard, Claude.ai or the many other (literally hundreds) of generative AI tools available today. Generative AI represents one of the biggest emerging data security challenges in 2023 and beyond. The conversational nature of these tools can invite users to inadvertently share sensitive or confidential data. With natural language interfaces being the norm, it's easy for employees to input proprietary information without realizing the risks.

DLP for ChatGPT and Generative AI

While some companies opt to completely block access to AI sites, Forcepoint recommends a more measured approach to managing access. We believe generative AI brings enormous productivity benefits that organizations will want to leverage. Outright bans often backfire, driving "shadow IT" usage as employees find workarounds to access prohibited tools. With estimates that over 80% of Fortune 500 companies already use some form of generative AI, it's safe to assume usage is widespread, whether officially sanctioned or not.

Forcepoint ONE provides technologies to help organizations effectively govern generative AI access:

  • Granular access controls allow or block specific sites or categories for different groups. As new AI tools launch, policies can be adjusted according to category or reputation based on up-to-date information.
  • Remote Browser Isolation (RBI) with zero-trust content disarm and reconstruction (ZTCDR) to isolate and sanitize high-risk sites. This can mitigate risks from AI-generated images.  A future blog/video will discuss this more.
  • Visibility into real-world AI site usage, informing policy changes to bring "shadow IT" into compliance. Access can be managed more tightly while still enabling productivity.
  • With greater visibility, data loss prevention policies can be tailored to AI, like coaching users, blocking pasting of content, auditing, or notifying managers.

With Forcepoint, organizations can tap into the gains of generative AI while still maintaining data security. For more information, check out this video that demonstrates how you can use Forcepoint ONE to manage access to generative AI:
