Meet Forcepoint’s Experts
David Barton - Chief Information Security Officer
David Barton is the Chief Information Security Officer for Forcepoint, responsible for securing the company and sharing our key learnings with customers. Barton brings to his role more than 20 years of experience in security leadership across a variety of sectors including telecommunications, healthcare, software development, finance and government.
Prior to joining the company in 2015, he spent three years as the Head of Information Security at Hireright, where he was responsible for securing the company’s information and physical assets on a global scale. Previously, Barton spent almost eight years as the Director of Information Security at AT&T/Cingular in Atlanta, where he led efforts to protect 80-plus million wireless subscribers. As Group Manager of Security Operations and Engineering at Sprint/Nextel, Barton managed all security activities for application development, database architecture and enterprise policy and audit compliance in addition to building a world-class white hat security team.
Barton holds an MBA from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Simpson College. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
Doug Copley - Deputy Chief Information Security Officer
Doug Copley is a Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Forcepoint™ responsible for understanding security and privacy challenges faced by all organizations and offering strategic advice and recommendations on how the application of technology can assist with these challenges.
With over 24 years of experience in IT, information security, and data privacy across healthcare, banking, manufacturing, and professional services industries, Copley spent many years with Accenture before taking positions with Ford Motor Company, Ally Financial and Beaumont Health. Copley was Chief Privacy Officer at Ally Financial before taking his last position as CISO for Beaumont Health.
Copley is very active in statewide and national healthcare cybersecurity and critical information protection initiatives and frequently speaks at industry events. He is also a founder and past Chairman of the Michigan Healthcare Cybersecurity Council. Copley holds CISM, CISSP, CISA, CIPP and CIPT certifications and holds degrees from both Albion College and Michigan State University.
Louis Smith Jr. - Director Sales Engineering & Security Strategy
Louis Smith Jr., based out of the New York Metro region, represents the Office of the CISO at Forcepoint where he’s responsible for all aspects of the dissemination of Forcepoint’s Security Strategy.
With over 15 years of Information Security experience, he’s highly regarded as a leader in promoting Security Strategy & Vision. Through his involvement as Director of Field Engineering in the Northeast & Canadian region, and with focus on Financial, Telco & Pharma verticals, he’s spent a great deal of time discussing threat landscape to Prospects, Customers & Channel Partners.
Prior to joining Forcepoint, he was a hands-on Field Engineer for Blue Coat, Permeo, and served as a Global Field Engineer for AEP Networks where he evangelized advanced encryption security to EMEA and APAC regions.
Mark Goldstein - Deputy Chief Information Security Officer
Mark Goldstein is Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Forcepoint responsible for assisting with security and privacy challenges faced by all organizations and offering strategic advice on applying technology to meet the challenges.
With a career in cybersecurity and privacy spanning over 20 years, Goldstein has an array of experience in IT, security, sales, marketing, customer support, legal, and privacy in commercial enterprises. Goldstein worked at America Online for over a decade leading customer-facing cybersecurity programs before becoming a cybersecurity consultant advising financial institutions, commercial customers, government contractors, trade associations, and the Department of Homeland Security.
Goldstein founded the “Malvertising Working Group.” Goldstein is a senior advisor for the Online Trust Alliance, a mentor at MACH37 (cybersecurity incubator), and a member of the Northern Virginia Tech Council’s Cybersecurity & Privacy Committee, Industry Botnet Group, as well as Infragard. Goldstein holds the CIPP and CISSP certifications along with a MBA from American University.
Michael Crouse - Director Federal Technical Sales (Insider Threat Strategies)
Michael Crouse is the Director of Federal Technical Sales (Insider Threat Stategies) where he oversees the overall strategy for identifying new global growth opportunities within the US Government and private industry. Crouse works closely with top decision-makers and lends key influence in helping them develop new security policies, specifically with regard to cybersecurity, audit/user activity monitoring requirements and the detection/mitigation of external and internal threats.
Crouse possesses over a quarter-century of experience supporting Commercial and Federal Organizations starting as an Electrical Engineer/Project Lead for the National Security Agency (NSA) and expanding his career with various companies including Stanford Telecom, ITT Industries, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and now Forcepoint.
Crouse graduated from the University of Akron, from which he holds a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering. Crouse also earned a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University; Program Manager Professional certification through Program Management Institute; and Certified Insider Threat Program Manager through Software Engineering Institute via Carnegie Mellon University.
Michael Knapp - Director of Network Security Architects (Americas)
Michael Knapp is the Director of Network Security Architects for the America’s at Forcepoint and is responsible for managing a team of industry Network Security experts across the America’s which collaborates on global solution strategies.
With over 24 years in IT, networking infrastructure, and information security, Knapp has covered numerous industries including banking, healthcare, government, manufacturing, energy, retail, and defense. Prior to joining Forcepoint, Knapp has held various global roles at Intel, Cisco, McAfee, Cyrix, and IBM.
Knapp is an active member of groups such as InfraGard, ICS-CERT ICSJWG, and ISSA. Knapp holds CISSP, CEH, CTT, and numerous vendor certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, and Intel.
Neil Thacker - Information Security & Strategy Officer
Neil Thacker, CISSP, CEH, OPST, is the information security and strategy officer for EMEA at Forcepoint. Thacker has 15 years of experience in the information security industry, including 10 years of financial services experience in the insurance and banking arena. Thacker is a member of the ENISA Threat Landscape stakeholder group, where he contributes to the EU agency program alongside CERTs to position the threat landscape and offer mitigation advice and threat analysis innovation.
Thacker is also co-founder of the Security Advisor Alliance, a not-for-profit organization formed to help security leaders in their roles and offer free advice and tools to move toward improved risk and data-centric strategies.
Seth Hammerman - Senior Manager, Sales Engineering
Seth Hammerman, based in Los Gatos, California, represents the Forcepoint Office of the CISO as a Senior Manager in Sales Engineering. Hammerman is part of the team responsible for all aspects of the promotion and advancement of Forcepoint’s Security Strategy.
Hammerman brings over 20 years of experience to Forcepoint from similar positions at Lucent, Computer Associates, Nominum and others and has held a variety of positions from Systems Administrator to Senior Systems Engineering Manager at a startup that he helped take public - Infoblox. There he rebuilt the entire Channel Training Program from the ground up, updating content and adding new material on Security products and Best Practices. Hammerman then delivered it, along with his team, all over the US, Latin America (in Spanish) Europe, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
A believer in Security certifications, Hammerman has his current CISSP and is studying to earn his CCSP certification, as many companies are making the jump to Cloud based environments. A member of Security focused associations such as ISSA, CSA, IACMP and others, Hammerman has presented numerous times at these association events on topics such as Safely Enabling Office 365, DNS Security and Architectural Best Practices.
